Chances are that at some point in your life you’ve heard the terms “Engage your core” or “Keep your core tight” – you may not entirely understand what it means for you but we’re here to give you the lowdown.  

The truth is that your core is the center of every movement you make. Whether it’s in the gym when you’re planking or doing a seemingly simple task like fastening your seatbelt.
So, what are the benefits of strengthening your core?


𝗕𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲
Your core wraps around your entire torso, including the muscles in your sides and back and when you are strengthening your core (especially the inner core muscles that attach to your spine) it helps keep yourself upright with good posture. Improving your posture can also prevent neck and back pain from hunching over your computer all day.

Core strength and the improved posture it brings, also benefits your balance. Because you are creating a solid base for your body it’s easier to stay upright on unsteady ground or recovering from a stumble. Essentially it creates equilibrium in your body.

Having a sturdy torso helps you stay stable no matter what activity you’re doing. A strong core helps you stand up straighter and keeps your trunk stabilized during your workout or even when you’re going about your daily activities. If your core is weak, you are at greater risk for injuries, lower back pain and poor posture.

The stronger your core is, the easier it is to execute every day movement like bending down to pick something up off the floor, standing for long periods of time or doing household chores.
